What many call America’s premier long-distance trail--passing through seven of the country’s eight climatological zones, three states (California, Oregon, Washington), seven national parks, 24 federal forests and 33 designated wilderness areas--winds 39 of its 2,650 mile journey through Big Bear. Park at the top of Hwy. 38 Onyx Summit and head north or south for great hiking, Hwy. 18 at Cushenbury Grade or Holcomb Valley Rd. for easy access. Or drive a couple miles on dirt road along Van Dusen Canyon into gold country for other great sections on the PCT. Hikers and equestrians are welcome but no mountain bikes or powered vehicles on the PCT.
