Re: No Moratorium, continue to fix Guest Behavior
The new emergency Vacation Rental Ordinance of 1/11/2021 needs time to show that it works. The Ordinance’s significant fines ($250-$5,000) and City Enforcement are having the intended effect – complaints are down significantly, and Guests are behaving properly.
Restricting occupancy to only 2 adults per bedroom will already have an extreme effect on TOT revenue – significantly reducing the TOT paid by each rental home.
Please do not make any more changes to the Vacation Rental Industry, let the new emergency ordinance continue to improve the situation. Let’s wait 6 months and then evaluate in Fall, 2021. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Summary of New Ordinance – Major Changes instituted as of 1/11/2021.
1) The Code Line is now inhouse in Big Bear and not in Utah.
2) The city has added 2 additional code officer positions (4 total) to write tickets
3) $100,000’s of thousands of tickets have been written this year compared to $0.00 in previous year.
4) $5000 fines and lifetime bans from the program for illegal rentals
5) $500 fines for too many cars
6) $500 fines for over occupancy and eviction
7) $500 fines for noise that can go up to $1000
8) Major Reduction in Occupancy -Dens, game rooms and lofts even with beds, sofa beds or futons now cannot sleep adults in them. That means gigantic homes now may only sleep 6 or adults as opposed to 16.
