Find a Cabin The History of Big Bear Snow Play
Snow Play in Big Bear Lake is located in a former popular ski area called “Rebel Ridge”. In the late 1950s, Rebel Ridge introduced snowmaking to Southern California for the first time and began bringing early winter joy to the Big Bear mountains. For generations now Rebel Ridge has become a family favorite for inner tubing amongst locals and tourists alike. Those who experienced the spectacle of Rebel Ridge as a kid in the 1950s are now bringing their children and even their grandchildren to experience Rebel Ridge as they once did. Temperatures in Big Bear Lake this year have allowed for Rebel Ridge to begin making snow in October! Their doors opened on October 16th and as the temperatures keep dropping the more snow we can expect. Natural snow and man-made snow will eventually combine making for enough snow to keep the winter fun going through Easter and even beyond. Eventually, snow heights will top 30ft or more!
