Big Bear’s 1st Annual StarLight Festival
Make sure you are keeping your eyes on the sky, the AstronomyOutreach network is hosting the 1st Annual Big Bear Starlight Festival Saturday, May 24 in the Village. The 2014 StarLight Festival will be held at the Northwoods Resort and Conference Center, located at 40650 Village Drive, Big Bear Lake, California.
This event is free educational and entertaining public event geared towards children, young adults, and families, combining science and astronomy with art and music to create a fun atmosphere. Some of the highlights of the event include guest speakers and panelists from NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), lectures about current space programs, opportunities to tour the Big Bear Solar Observatory, “sidewalk” astronomers, STEM educational activities, major manufacturers display the latest and greatest scientific equipment, intergalactic-style art exhibits, live music, and thousands of dollars in door prizes. Food will also be available from Mike Murray’s BBQ, Dominos, and the Copper Q. For the kids and kids at heart, there will also be bounce houses to burn off plenty of energy while the parents relax.
Once evening falls, all of our telescopes will be turned to the heavens. Get great views of Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and even a comet or two. Stick around and enjoy the ambiance created by live music from Arizona’s own Stephen Pike. Stroll from scope to scope and wind down under the amazing skies of Big Bear.
